BARNHART — Jefferson County Animal Control has reversed an
earlier decision and will now let one volunteer photograph adoptable
animals and post the pictures online.
Adel Petterson of Ballwin will be allowed to take pictures of adoptable
animals, under the supervision of animal control staff, and post them
to Petfinder.com, said County Administrator Steve Stoll.
On Tuesday, Animal Control manager James "J.T." Taylor banned all
volunteers from photographing animals, saying pictures of unavailable
animals had been posted online.
Also on Tuesday, the Missouri Department of Agriculture ordered shelter
staff to stop euthanizing animals until they could prove they were
doing so under the direct supervision of a veterinarian, as required by
state law. Since then, the county has stopped accepting animals from
owners and is working with other agencies to take animals when the
county facility is full, Stoll said. The county has 16 indoor kennels
for medium to large dogs.
