CEDAR HILL — Like most of the rest of the nation, Jefferson County had a rough year in 2008, but there are some hopeful signs, County Executive Chuck Banks said Friday in his annual State of the County speech.
"This year, I believe that the word that best describes the state of Jefferson County is 'renaissance,'" Banks told his audience at Northwest High School in Cedar Hill.
The county's government is converting to a home-rule charter, adopted by voters in November. A seven-member County Council will replace a three-member County Commission. County Council members will be elected at the next countywide general election in 2010.
