A health concern of salmonella bacteria causing illness in much of the country has reached Jefferson County.
Doug Dodson, assistant director of the Jefferson County Health Department, reported that a case of a salmonella bacteria illness recently occurred in the county.
"The state is reporting eight cases," Dodson said. "We have one from the end of last year. I think that case was relatively mild."
According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 400 people in 43 states have fallen ill due to strains of salmonella typhimurium.
