Church emphasizes importance of deaf ministry

Fri Apr 16 2010, 20:37 by Admin

Traditionally, the deaf have been an overlooked group in the world of
religion, according to First Baptist Church of Arnold officials.

"Less
than 1 percent of the deaf in North America have ever heard the gospel
in their heart language, which is sign language," said the Rev. Bob
Caldwell, First Baptist's pastor of outreach.

However, at First Baptist, the congregation has made ministering to the deaf a priority, he said.

"We have multiple deaf ministries throughout our church and community," he said.

Sinking House

While I don't want 'political' debate here, these folks need help. This situation is unacceptable, it was a mistake to let these homes be built.

Letters to Arnold residents say methane gas could be leaking into homes

Fri Feb 19 2010, 00:31 by Admin

KSDK -- Residents in a Jefferson County suburb are
getting letters from a testing company that methane gas may be leaking
into their homes. It's the second time in a week that residents living
near closed landfills have been notified that methane may be leaking
from the landfills at levels higher than allowed.
The latest round of letters is going to neighbors who live near a
long closed landfill near Highway 141 and Astra Way. The dump closed in
1977 after a lawsuit by neighbors complained of the nuisance.
Della Baker says she was part of the old lawsuit and is disappointed

Like to sing?Like to sing?Like to sing?Like to sing? Join the new community choir forming. We are still in the planning stages, so get in on the ground floor. This started with a reunion concert that was done in October. The members of that group were former Fox students who had Mr. Johnson as director. We rehearsed once a week for 5 weeks, then performed at the FBCA, which generously allowed us to use their faciltiies for our practice and our concert. CDs of the performace were sold to raise money for the vocal music depts at the Fox and Seckman High Schools. If you would like to have a copy of this CD, please email me and I will get the info to you on how to get one. FBCA also are allowing us to use their facilities for our meetings and future rehearsals and concerts. However, we are not limited to their facilities for these. We are not forming an FBCA choir, rather a community choir. You do not need to be a Fox graduate, just reside in the area and love to sing. Our next meeting is on Dec 7 at 6:30 PM at FBCA, probably in a meeting room downstairs. All are welcome to attend. We may try to get some caroling in this year.

You can visit this website, and see some names of those who participated, and read the guestbook for comments about the concert. It was a BLAST!

This is an email I got today about this.

We have had two information meetings about the community choir, with approx 60
people who have attended. Many others have expressed interest. We will meet with
both groups on Dec.7, at 6:30 PM to finalize the details about when we will
start and the night we will practice on. We will also be singing a few Christmas
songs that night for a little fun. So we want to invite everyone, even if you are
not planning on being a part of the community choir to go ahead and come to sing
with us and have a little fun. Hope to see you there.

Just 5 more days to get in on the Easter Program. Become a Charter
Member of the We Are One Community Choir. You do not have to be a Fox
Graduate. You just have to be willing to make the rehearsals, and the
Program. You just have to love to sing. You just have to want to help
the Fox and Seckman High vocal music departments. Check the website for
information on joining and our program! http://www.weare1cc.org

C'mon Folks, see, it is good for you!

KSDK -- There are certain songs that regardless of
how long ago they were written, seem to stand the test of time, which
is the case with Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody".
I mean not only was it sung by Wayne and Garth in "Wayne's World,"
but it's been covered by Pink and The Muppets just to name a few.
It's also being sung everywhere. Celebrating Queen, a queen tribute
band, which got this guy, the lead singer of that tribute band,
thinking.
"A lot of things people do are good for themselves, like yoga, like
meditation, like walking, like running, but a lot of people don't know
singing is awesome for you," explains J.J. Midnight.
