More people are smoking and gaining weight in Missouri, dropping the state’s health score ranking from 35 in 2007 to 38 in 2008, a new report shows.
In the last year, the prevalence of smoking in the state increased from 23.2 percent to 24.5 percent of the population, the prevalence of obesity increased from 27.2 percent to 28.2 percent and the percentage of children in poverty increased from 17.7 percent to 22.1 percent, according to America’s Health Rankings, published by the UnitedHealth Foundation, the American Public Health Association and the Partnership for Prevention.
