Church emphasizes importance of deaf ministry

Fri Apr 16 2010, 20:37 by Admin

Traditionally, the deaf have been an overlooked group in the world of
religion, according to First Baptist Church of Arnold officials.

"Less
than 1 percent of the deaf in North America have ever heard the gospel
in their heart language, which is sign language," said the Rev. Bob
Caldwell, First Baptist's pastor of outreach.

However, at First Baptist, the congregation has made ministering to the deaf a priority, he said.

"We have multiple deaf ministries throughout our church and community," he said.

Sinking House

While I don't want 'political' debate here, these folks need help. This situation is unacceptable, it was a mistake to let these homes be built.

Letters to Arnold residents say methane gas could be leaking into homes

Fri Feb 19 2010, 00:31 by Admin

KSDK -- Residents in a Jefferson County suburb are
getting letters from a testing company that methane gas may be leaking
into their homes. It's the second time in a week that residents living
near closed landfills have been notified that methane may be leaking
from the landfills at levels higher than allowed.
The latest round of letters is going to neighbors who live near a
long closed landfill near Highway 141 and Astra Way. The dump closed in
1977 after a lawsuit by neighbors complained of the nuisance.
Della Baker says she was part of the old lawsuit and is disappointed
in the latest …

Rolling Eyes Last night we heard a very loud boom in Bayshore and I''ve heard others around Arnold and Oakville also heard it. We went outside to see if we could see anything.
The girl up the street said she called and was told it was a gas explosion but another person I spoke with who lives off the old Lower Tenbrook told me it was a small bomb that went off in that area. I have yet to see or hear anything on the news regarding this. Not sure who is telling the correct story but since I heard the one about the bomb it has me wondering.

Chief has advised me that they believe it was a "Works" Bomb, which is a crude pressure bomb contained within a 1 or 2 liter soda bottle. The sound wave is caused by pressurized chlorine created through oxidation causing the vessel to fail, not an incendary means. Typically kids set them off. They only require 3 things to create, and I will not list them here to aid in creating one, but they can all be purchased at any grocery or Walmart. It got the whole neighborhood out of the house last night with the boom. I was worried it was a natural gas explosion, which it was not.

Thanks for the information Matt. I do not think these kids realize how dangerous these things can be. A guy at work discovered his kids making one of these things, or something similar. Unfortunately for him, it went off sooner than they thought, and he came to work with a face that look like he got the hell beat out of him! Big black eye (really the side of his face), and a long line of stitches!

Thanks Nick for letting us know that these things can be dangerous even if kids can make them from items that can be purchased in the store.
From what the lady that lives in the area told me it did create a hole in the pavement.
This type of device could scar a person for life and I would imagine it could be deadly if it hit a adult or small child in just the right spot.
