HOUSE SPRINGS — The Northwest R-I School District decided
Thursday to close a school for fifth- and sixth-graders as part of a
plan that is projected to bring $1 million in savings.
The school board followed the recommendation of a panel of parents,
staff and community members in opting to close the 245-student Cedar
Hill Intermediate School at the end of this school year.
Shuttering the school is expected to save $600,000 for the Jefferson
County district, which has seen its enrollment shrink by about 1,000
students in the last decade.
Students and staff at Cedar Hill will be transferred to other schools
in the district. Fifth-graders will go to House Springs Intermediate.
Sixth-graders will go to Northwest Valley. Administrators said class
sizes will stay the same.
