ARNOLD — Diane Walters couldn't rest knowing fire departments in her town lacked the best equipment to save pets from fires.
So, she went online to research oxygen masks specially fitted for
animals and spent about $385 to buy five sets of the masks — one set
for each fire station in the Rock Community Fire Protection District.
"It's bad enough losing your house and everything in it, but the last
thing you want to lose is your pet," she said. "I could just see a
little kid coming out of a house burning behind him and their dog not
coming back to life. Here, they lost their clothes, which can be
replaced, but they would be heartsick over losing that dog."
