HILLSBORO — Jefferson County officials are hoping a law they
passed Monday will help the county shed its reputation as the state's
methamphetamine lab capital as well as send a message to the
legislature.
County executives voted unanimously to require prescriptions for select
cold and allergy medications that contain the decongestant
pseudoephedrine, which doubles as meth's main ingredient. The law,
which takes effect in about 30 days, will only involve pharmacies in
unincorporated areas, or nine of the county's 32 pharmacies. The rest
fall within the city limits of Festus, Crystal City, Arnold and De Soto.Read More
