The Jefferson College Board of Trustees hired Raymond Cummiskey as the institution's seventh president.
He was among three finalists chosen from a field of 30 applicants in a nationwide search.
Cummiskey will start July 1 to replace Wayne Watts, who will retire June 30.
"I am extremely pleased to be chosen as president of Jefferson College—an institution that has a strong and positive reputation throughout the region," Cummiskey said in a statement. "There are a variety of challenges and exciting opportunities that the institution will address."
Cummiskey, a father of three and Webster Groves native, has been president of Southeastern Illinois College in Harrisburg since 2004.
