At 6 p.m. Monday, March 23, the Jefferson County Council will consider whether to allow a new, huge development that will include a Hindu temple to be placed along Byrnesville Road in House Springs.
For the project to happen, the developer - listed in county records as Ananda LLC, Dhyanpeetam Nithyananda and Sadasivam Shaker -- will need to get a variance on zoning for the area from the county government.
The issue has stirred a controversy, however, as a group opposed to the development, as proposed, has emerged and is urging county officials to withhold a variance that would allow residential development with smaller acreage per lot than currently is allowed in that zoned area.
So many people are expected to attend the meeting that it is scheduled for the Fine Arts Theatre at Jefferson College instead of the council's normal meeting place of the Jefferson County Administration Building in Hillsboro.
