ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The St. Louis Rams release Orlando Pace, a seven-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle dogged by injuries in recent seasons.
The 33-year-old Pace was the first overall pick of the 1997 draft. The move on Tuesday cleared $6 million in cap space for the Rams, after they were 2-14 last season.
Pace was the first offensive lineman chosen No. 1 overall since the Minnesota Vikings chose Ron Yary in the 1968 draft. He was named to seven straight Pro Bowls from 1999-2005 and started in two Super Bowls, including the franchise's lone title after the 1998 season
