Church emphasizes importance of deaf ministry

Fri Apr 16 2010, 20:37 by Admin

Traditionally, the deaf have been an overlooked group in the world of
religion, according to First Baptist Church of Arnold officials.

"Less
than 1 percent of the deaf in North America have ever heard the gospel
in their heart language, which is sign language," said the Rev. Bob
Caldwell, First Baptist's pastor of outreach.

However, at First Baptist, the congregation has made ministering to the deaf a priority, he said.

"We have multiple deaf ministries throughout our church and community," he said.

While I don't want 'political' debate here, these folks need help. This situation is unacceptable, it was a mistake to let these homes be built.

Letters to Arnold residents say methane gas could be leaking into homes

Fri Feb 19 2010, 00:31 by Admin

KSDK -- Residents in a Jefferson County suburb are
getting letters from a testing company that methane gas may be leaking
into their homes. It's the second time in a week that residents living
near closed landfills have been notified that methane may be leaking
from the landfills at levels higher than allowed.
The latest round of letters is going to neighbors who live near a
long closed landfill near Highway 141 and Astra Way. The dump closed in
1977 after a lawsuit by neighbors complained of the nuisance.
Della Baker says she was part of the old lawsuit and is disappointed

KSDK -- Dr. Rudy Duran, the Windsor C-1 School Superintendent who was relieved of his duties on Wednesday, said he does not know why he was put on paid administrative leave.

"I asked them," said Duran. "But all I got in response were generalities. No specific charges."

Windsor school officials declined comment Friday. Thursday's school board vote to remove Duran from his duties was unanimous and that it was not a criminal matter.

I know several teachers in the district. Some feel that it is a good thing the board has finally done something. They have been looking for a change. When I asked what was up, part of it was a personality thing, but others were concerned about what they claim are inside deals made with family and friends. They would not give me any specifics, however, suggested I look at the following web page.

Notice who the latchkey director is.

My guess is, before this is over there will be a public hearing where the board gives their reasons and this super walks away with a super amount of money.

JEFFERSON COUNTY (KSDK) -- Parents in the Windsor School District in this county south of St. Louis are still looking for answers as to why the school superintendent was put on administrative leave with pay last week.

Rudy Duran was walked out of the district offices, and says he knows of no reason why the school board put him on leave. Duran, who was recently honored for his work with school boards, has a contract, and has hired a lawyer to fight the action.

Parents showed up at a school board meeting last night, seeking answers about Duran and his status. Some parents, like Chris Kern, seem to support Duran, and are concerned he was put on leave in haste.

Ousted Windsor School District Superintendent Rudy Duran will file a lawsuit against his former employer, according to Duran's attorney, Chet Pleban.

The suit will allege breach of contract and attempt to recoup more than two years salary remaining on Duran's contract in addition to punitive damages.

"This will not be a simple breach-of-contract suit," Pleban said.

Duran is paid approximately $155,000 annually.
Duran, who was placed on paid administrative leave March 4, pending a "performance evaluation," was dismissed March 11 by the Board of Education in a unanimous vote.

District officials have declined to cite a specific reason for the decision, saying only that it is "job performance" related.

KSDK -- The Windsor C-1 School District in Jefferson County has reached a settlement with former Superintendent Rudy Duran.
Duran's departure from the district was mysterious. In March he was
walked out of district offices, and said at that time he did not know
why the school board was placing him on leave.
Some said they were shocked about Duran's sudden departure. He had
been honored for his work with school boards in the past and had a
contract with the district.
