Those who like good horror, but haven't picked up Stephen King in a while, I suggest getting his latest novel, "Duma Key". It's out in paperback now, and I think many people will enjoy it.

Earth Abides by George R Stewart

I am reading this book now. It is fiction. The idea is that most of mankind is wiped out by a virus. The book follows one survivor as he lives out his live. It theorizes the changes in earth, the creatures on Earth, the decay of society, and the infrastructure of mans. And then into the rebuilding of society. It is not an over the top sci fi novel, but an extremely believeable scenario. I am enjoying it a lot, though I tend to read more scifi, horror and action books.
