JEFFERSON CITY,Mo. (AP) -- The chairman of the House Education Committee says a proposal to give certain students four years of free college tuition likely won't pass this year.

Republican House member Maynard Wallace of Thornfield is reshaping a large education bill that was defeated yesterday. The A+ Schools Program expansion was in the bill, but Wallace said today it won't be when the bill resurfaces.

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Missouri State University is offering people who have lost their jobs a 50 percent reduction in tuition.

The school in West Plains announced the plan Friday. Missouri State President Mike Nietzel says the program would help unemployed workers improve their job prospects and, perhaps, help the area's economy recover.

Nietzel says eligible people have to be Missouri residents who have lost full-time jobs since October because of the economy. Some type of proof of ...

Why no crossing guards at the busy intersections?

I really do not see why putting a crossing guard at Fox, or any other school with a bunch of kids crossing should be such an issue, especially when you are likely to have a number of volunteers for such duty. What is the issue? Is it a liability issue for the school? If a child is hit crossing, could a parent not sue for LACK of such a 'tool' and busy intersection to protect those children? Just curious, what IS the argument against?

Snow day decisions weigh heavily on administrators’ minds

Should I or shouldn’t I?

For school administrators, it can be an agonizing question.

Calling off school is not an easy decision, even when the weather looks gloomy. If they decide to cancel classes based on a forecast, it could be wrong and parents who have to scramble to find baby sitters will be angry.

Then, again, if they go ahead and let the buses roll on icy streets, parents may vilify them for needlessly putting their young ones at risk on dangerous roads.

WASHINGTON, Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Some schools in the United States have stopped handing out failing grades, or at least are delaying them while students get a chance to improve.

In Grand Rapids, Mich., work that would justify an "F" will get an "H" for "held," ABC News reported. The school superintendent, Bernard Taylor, said students will have several choices -- including retaking a course, doing additional work or agreeing on another plan with teachers -- ...
